Foreign student crackdown

Up to 100,000 foreign students will be barred from Britain every year under planned tough new immigration rules to be unveiled tomorrow

Ministers will suggest reducing further the current restriction that students can only work for 20 hours a week to supplement their funds and are likely to raise the bar as to when they can bring dependants with them, which is currently set at those staying for six months or more.

Annual limit for Tier 1 and Tier 2 visa applications

This is a new policy guidance, it is not still statutory, even my a alert from UKBA says it is a draft
It is a Good Read to read, Hopefully by next year April, it will be implemented without much change

The Home Secretary announced on 23 November 2010 a number of changes to immigration policy in respect of Tiers 1 and 2 of the points-based system, designed to deliver the government’s commitment to place a limit on non-EU economic migration to the UK.

New requirement for Tier 1 and Tier 2 applicants submitting postgraduate certificates or diplomas

From 12 October 2010, the UK Border Agency has introduced a new requirement for applications to work in the UK under Tier 1 (General), Tier 1 (Entrepreneur) or any Tier 2 category of the points-based system.

If you are submitting a postgraduate certificate or diploma awarded by a UK listed body in order to score points for your qualifications or English language skills, you must include a letter of equivalency issued by UK NARIC with your application.

Student immigration – New Changes before End of Year?

It seems new regulations on student visas is nearing, yet there haven’t been been any major changes after Aug 12, 2010 ( To See the Recent Changes Click Here New Tier 4 English Requirements from Today), early in the year work restrictions imposed on below degree level programmes. Immigration minister Damian Green, Today reveled that his main target will be student visa cut. I predict that new regulations will be in favour of highly trusted institutions. Private educational institutions below highly trusted level will have to face difficulties in recruitmnt of non EU students if the anticipated changes introduced – Rushdy Razak

Asian immigrants in cash-for-qualifications “scam”

Investigations led to the discovery of colleges that were allegedly selling English language qualifications. The examination watchdog, Ofqual, found that certificates were being issued with “virtually no training or learning taking place and with insufficient rigour in the assessment process”.

According to The Times, one such college — grandly named Oxford College of Management Sciences — is being investigated after it was alleged that it was selling English language certificates for between £250 to £450. The newspaper said a 38-year-old UK-based Pakistani citizen Rizwan Ahmed Kiyani, who runs the college with another fellow Pakistani was being investigated by the U.K. Border Agency which was “actively seeking to remove both men from the country”.
